Music has been Josh’s passion since he was 9 years old. He has always had a passion for worship music and has been a worship leader and director. As a talented and diverse musician Josh has studied piano with Laura McMillan, drums from Mark Cameron and guitar instruction from Tim Ellis. His studies included Music Theory, Sight reading, and Performance. As a singer he has given numerous performances with the NCCS Acapella Choir. He has also sung in a Men’s Quartet where he studied Sight Reading and Vocal Performance. Josh loves playing and teaching any style of music, however for guitar, he specializes in jazz, blues, and country. He enjoys revealing to each student the fun that can be found while learning an instrument as well as supplying them with the necessary “tools” for the foundation of music.
""I like the pace of the lessons. I feel like I have learned a lot and have been able to get better and advance quickly. I always look forward to the next lesson!"
- Curtis Smith
"Josh is both a talented and driven musician. He is diligent in his focus on fundamentals. Josh has a deep knowledge of how music works.
Josh was our worship team leader for chapel for two years, and it was my privilege to oversee him in that role. He would focus on training others to be able to lead, and was always willing to take the time to teach other students how to play something. Josh has been teaching guitar lessons to several of our students, and they have all improved a lot and spoken highly of Josh.
As a person, Josh is patient, especially with younger students. He is good-natured, positive, and encouraging. He will always push himself and others towards excellence. I have been impressed by Josh's work ethic, and his gentleness with others.
I would highly recommend Josh Martenson as a guitar teacher to anyone."
